We're a homeschool family with six kids, and these birds are part of their education. Our children learn how to care for animals properly and put real time into doing it well. Each kid who loves chickens got to pick a color of their own and breed it.
The kids love silkies for their gentle nature. They follow us around the yard and want to be held, and ours are handled daily.
We breed toward the Standard of Perfection (SOP) for type and feathering, as close as we can.
Hatching eggs, yes. We ship USPS Priority Mail Monday through Wednesday so eggs don't sit in a post office over the weekend. Live birds are local pickup only.
We only sell eggs laid within the last 72 hours. Older eggs stay here and go in our own incubator, so you always get the freshest eggs we have.
No. Rough handling and temperature swings in the mail lower hatch rates, and we can't control that once eggs leave the farm. That's why we pack every box as carefully as we can.
Every order is double boxed. Each egg is wrapped in plenty of bubble wrap and cushioned with foam insulation tubing, with packing peanuts filling any gaps. We pack to protect the eggs as well as we possibly can, and we try to add a few extras when we have them.
Our flock is tested through the National Poultry Improvement Plan, a federal-state program, and has tested clean for avian influenza and pullorum-typhoid. It's the standard most states expect for poultry and hatching eggs crossing state lines.
Silkies are hard to sex young. Chicks under about 12 weeks are sold unsexed. Older birds are listed as hen or rooster once we're confident.
Birds must be paid in full and picked up within 48 hours. Cash is accepted only if you pay and pick up the same day. Payments are non-refundable and can't be moved to a different bird. Once a bird leaves our hands it's yours, and we can't offer any guarantee after that. We reserve the right to cancel a sale and refund your payment in full at any time.
Yes, with care. They can't fly and are gentle, so bigger breeds may bully them. Introduce slowly.
No. Our eggs are sold for hatching only.
Let shipped eggs rest pointy end down at cool room temperature for 12 to 24 hours to settle, then put them in the incubator. Don't wait longer than 24 hours. Don't refrigerate or wash them.
Our sourdough side project. Baked at home in small batches. Add a loaf to your bird or egg pickup.
